About Mark Mawby

Despite having a degree in Classical music (first study classical guitar,) I've been addicted for many years to traditonal music played on the fiddle and mandolin (and related instruments such as mandola, bazouki and guitar).

As a working musician, needing high quality instruments at an affordable price, I have for many years constructed my own, consolidating my joinery skills (a trade in which I am qualified) and self-taught experience with an excellent two year course in Musical Instrument Technology in Manchester.

Recently, I've concentrated my making on mandolins and fiddles for the discerning folk musician - though they're equally good for classical and jazz players. I also regularly make bazoukis, mandola's and citterns.

What else is there to say?! I have played traditional music (from all over the place for too many years to mention,) fiddle, mandolin and guitar being the main instruments, though I've flirted with whistle, flute and pipes. I also play classical guitar, and still get the odd gig occasionally.

I also occasionally play guitar in the wonderful 'Gina Le Faux Band', with Gina (fiddle and mandolin) and Hugh Bradley on double bass. If you've never heard Gina play, check her out - quite astonishing!

Since March 2009, I've been based in the workshops of a Camphill Community in Yorkshire. The members and students of the community have been a constant help and inspiration - thanks to them all.
