Dancing Master’s ‘Kit’

A modern version of the original ‘travel’ instrument — beloved of the Eighteenth and Nineteenth Century dancing masters, who footed it about the country areas of Scotland and elsewhere, teaching dancing to the inhabitants of great houses and small communities alike. The shape was to allow the instrument to be slipped into an internal pocket in the master’s great-coat, hence its other common name, a pochette (French for a small pocket).
This instrument is a striking modern design, slightly larger than the traditional kit, but not as big as a standard violin. It is constructed using some some guitar-making techniques, making it much more affordable than a traditional fiddle.
Carved spruce tops, sycamore back and sides, fruit-wood fingerboards.
